Septuagenarian Suicide Pact
By Ivor Griffiths
The septuagenarian suicide pact

required that four
clanking metal coffins were made,
in brass,
in the land of laws
and men, where aborigines sleep.

Back in black
the mourners
sing a wailing ballad
while twangling banners and boomerangsfly
above spit roast kangaroo.

Coffins were laid in iron hard ground
took four days to dig
two foot deep
covered in rocks.
Dingoes caught the stench
they came from nearby billabongs.

So we slaughtered them all, with spears.
